"The future of I Had A Tumor, It Wasn’t A Rumor"

Six months ago, we received two generous donations from the local Golden K Kiwanis and Menasha Corporation that allowed us to print 300 copies of I Had A Tumor, It Wasn’t A Rumor. To date, 250 books have been distributed. Some were given directly to family and friends. Others were given to individuals of all ages struggling with cancer. The majority were sent to Wisconsin Hospitals (namely UW-Children’s Hospital in Madison and Childrens’ Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee) for distribution to families with a child newly diagnosed with cancer. Twenty books were also distributed to a Colorado hospital, at their request. The contact people vary from Child Life therapists to Candlelighter parent support group volunteers to pediatric oncologists to patients themselves.

As the number of books in our hall closet dwindles, we are searching for ways to keep this project alive. We have contacted numerous societies, agencies and publishers. While they all think that the book has a wonderful message, none of them are able to fund its printing on a national level.

The next stage of this project could take many different forms. Publication vs. funding? Selling vs. free distribution to families in need? The bottom line is that this book needs to get into the hands of families struggling with cancer, to give them hope.

Please e-mail us with your insights, contacts and feedback at Romy96@aol.com. Help us make a difference in the fight against cancer.
