An Invitation to Join our Team

Has cancer touched your life or the life of someone you love?
Have you ever asked yourself "What can I do to make a difference?"
"How can I support my mother, my brother, my friend?"

The answer is clear.

You can walk to support their struggle with cancer.
You can raise funds to support research to cure cancer.
You can join the Ross Romenesko Team.

And now, a personal invitation from The Romeneskos:

Thanks to everyone who has supported the Ross Romenesko Team and welcome to all new participants.

You embody the spirit that will one day defeat cancer.

You support cancer survivors.

You remember the victims of cancer.

Your dollars fund research and support programs to educate cancer patients and their families.

A heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you.

Together, we make a difference.

The Romeneskos

The following contains important information on how to join - so please read carefully.

On May 8th, the American Cancer Society will be holding the 22nd Annual Sole Burner Run/Walk. The Ross Romenesko Team is participating for the eighth consecutive year. Since 1997, we have raised more than $65,000. The run/walk starts at 9:00 a.m., so please arrive at City Park by 8:15 a.m. for the team picture. Check your brochure for more details.

If you are interested in joining this year’s team as a runner or walker, complete the enclosed entry form (keep the pledge portion). Please use only one form per participant. If you are registering as a family, photocopy and complete one for each individual in your family. Return your entry forms with your entry fee to us by March 30th ( that’s only two weeks from now!). Return the pledge portions to us by May 4th. Please be sure to include your age on the registration form. Registration on-line at www.soleburner.org is easier and more efficient this year. Be sure to include The Ross Romenesko Team as your team name on the drop down menu.

Thanks to the hard work and expertise of Sue Arrowood, our website at www.rossromenesko.org has been completely renovated. I Had a Tumor, It Wasn’t a Rumor is available in its entirety as a PDF file, making it accessible to even more families in need. The website also contains a link to the Sole Burner home page.

We are pleased to announce that last November the updated version of Ross’s book, I Had a Tumor, It Wasn’t a Rumor, was chosen as the official book for the UW Children’s Hospital - Kids With Courage III pediatric cancer survivors’ reunion in Madison. The vice-president of the University of Wisconsin Foundation loved the book, loved the project and, thanks to his support and numerous endowments from the UW, an incredible 15,000 copies were printed, approximately the number of children diagnosed annually in the United States. Tina has been working on a distribution plan and is piloting the project with national board members of the Association of Pediatric Oncology Social Workers. Books have also been distributed to Wisconsin pediatric cancer centers, the Martha Siekman Cancer Center at AMC and all AASD media centers. It is a dream come true to know that families are receiving hope in the form of Ross’s story.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated to last year’s postcard campaign, which raised over $5000 and allowed us to cover graphic design costs, secure non-profit status and begin the distribution process. This year we are again offering the option to earmark donations for the The Ross Romenesko Team Ltd. Your tax deductible donations will facilitate distribution (postage) and begin to build the funds needed to print additional copies for future years. We are also planning to publish the book in Spanish. We continue to support ACS in their fight against cancer. Any funds not marked specifically will automatically go to ACS. We will also have copies of Ross’s book available at the Sole Burner for an additional $20 donation.

If you’re unavailable on May 8th, but would still like to show your support, please send a pledge to us and we will include it in Ross’s team total. The annual Celebration of Life will follow the race at our home in thanks for all of your past and present support. Together we make a difference in the fight against cancer.
